Hawaiʻi ranks 50th in the nation for participation of low-income children in the national School Breakfast Program, according to the national School Breakfast Scorecard released Feb. 9 by the Food Research & Action Center.

In Hawaiʻi, 25,559 low-income children in Hawaiʻi participated in the national School Breakfast Program on an average school day during the 2019–2020 school year. That’s about 40 percent of those who receive free or reduced price lunch. This compares to a national rate of 58.4 percent.
